Western Highlands records four new COVID-19 cases

Western Highlands Province has reported four new Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the last 24 hours.

The four positive cases, all males with youngest of seven years and oldest being 32 were reported in three separate areas. The other males were 30 and 22 years of age.

One case was reported in Hagen Central, one in Mul Baiyer and two cases reported in Dei Council area.

Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning, said at the time of testing, the seven year old and 30 year old showed symptoms of cough, diarrhea, shortness of breath, headache and muscle aches.

“The 22 year old did not show symptoms of the virus at the time when swab samples were taken but results returned positive.”

The country’s total number of cases stands at 725 with eight COVID-19 deaths.

To date, 36,674 people have been tested for the virus. 601 people have recovered. 439 samples are pending at the laboratories whilst 116 active cases are in isolation.

16 provinces including AROB have reported cases. The distribution of the cases is as follows:

Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 69,808,588, including 656,181 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll is 1,588,854; of which 11,868 were reported in the last 24 hours.
