West Sepik records second COVID-19 case as PNG’s total climbs to 646

West Sepik has recorded its second case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) today in a 17-year-old female from Vanimo Green, bringing PNG’s total cases to 646.

Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning said the latest case  was a contact of a previously-identified case who travelled in from West New Britain.

“She was not experiencing symptoms of the virus at the time of testing but her swab sample came back positive for the virus.

“The country’s total number of COVID-19 cases has reached 646, including seven known COVID-19 deaths,” Mr Manning added.

To date, 32,221 people have been tested for coronavirus. Additional 80 samples are pending laboratory results.

There have been 597 people who have recovered from COVID-19 whilst there are 42 active cases that are in isolation.

At this stage, 16 of the 22 provinces in the country have confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 60,074,172, including 577,198 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll is 1,416,292; of which 11,263 were reported in the last 24 hours.
