Two COVID-19 positive cases reported in NCD in last 24 hours

Two more new cases of coronavirus have been reported in the National Capital District in the last 24 hours.

This brings the total confirmed cases in NCD alone to 318 and for Papua New Guinea to 534 confirmed cases respectively.

The latest cases are both male, ages 23 and 34 year old respectively. The 34 year old is a taxi driver who resides at Morata two.   He got tested on   September 21  at the  Taurama Aquatic drive- through and confirmed to be positive despite showing no symptoms of COVID-19 during the time of testing.

The 23 year old male, self employed who resides at Hohola 4 also got tested on the

September 21  at the Gerehu hospital. At the time of the testing, he was experiencing fever and headache.

The latest case shows evidence of community transmission thus prompting calls from the Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning for citizens to be vigilant against the threat of Coronavirus.

“I call on every citizen to get tested even if you are asymptomatic as testing alone can determine your true health status,” said Controller Manning.

To date, of the 24,613 persons tested for Coronavirus, 24,079 have turned out to be negative. An additional 274 persons have been tested, pending laboratory results whilst  nine  active cases are currently in isolation.

So far, a total of 517 persons have recovered whilst death from COVID-19 remains at  seven.

Globally, since Niupla Pasin, a total confirmed cases have reached 32,743,077 and the death toll stands at 992,861.  There was an increase of 314,115 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours.

In the Western Pacific region, a total of 11 countries/territories had confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases for the region to 600,434 cases and 13,118 deaths.
