The National Control Centre has confirmed 40 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Thursday June 10, which bring the country’s total number to 16,661.
Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning, said the cases were reported in 10 provinces, of which, the National Capital District reporting the highest number of infections of 10 cases, followed by both West New Britain and Western Highlands with seven cases each; Enga five; East New Britain four; Western and Morobe two cases each; whilst New Ireland, Madang and Jiwaka reported one each.
From the 40 cases, 22 are males and 18 females, with ages ranging from 18 to 70 years. Papua New Guinea’s number of COVID-19 cases now stands at 16,661 with 164 known deaths. Meantime, 16,017 people have recovered from COVID-19, whilst 126,238 tests have been conducted to date.
The distribution of cases in the 22 provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) are as follows:

- Western Highlands – 1,005

Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 173,674,509 including 333,823 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll stands at 3,744,408 including 8,662 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
