Three new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases have been reported in the National Capital District (NCD) in the last 24 hours, bringing PNG’s total COVID-19 cases to 549.
NCD has the highest number of cases at 329 whilst Western Province has the second highest with191 cases.
Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning said the recent cases include: a 45-year-old man who resides at Hohola in the Moresby North West electorate who is asymptomatic; a 44-year-old woman who resides at Moresby South electorate who had headache and cough; and a 45-year-old man who resides in Moresby South electorate who had fever and cough during the time of testing.
To date, Papua New Guinea had tested 26,417 persons for coronavirus. An additional 195 samples are pending laboratory results.
There were 528 persons who have recovered from COVID-19 whilst 10 persons with COVID-19 are being isolated. The country’s death toll from COVID-19 remains at seven.

Globally, since the start of the outbreak, there have been a total 36,380,772 confirmed cases and the death toll stands at 1,059,960.
There was an increase of 313,096 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours.
In the Western Pacific region, a total of 13 countries/territories had confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases for the region to 640,269 cases and 13,905 deaths.
