Taiwan Trade Mission donates Protective Equipment to PNG Government

3 October 2020

The new Representative of  the Taiwan Trade Mission (now called the  Taipei Economic and Cultural Office) in Papua New Guinea, Mr Oliver Liao, presented on behalf of his Government, a variety of personal protective equipment and medical equipment to the PNG Government.

At  a small ceremony on 18 September 2020 at the Central Government Office lobby, Mr Liao echoed his Government’s support and kindness to PNG in efforts to further strengthen the bilateral relationship.

This was Mr Liao’s  first official engagement since taking up his assignment in the country  on July 27, 2020.

The Acting Deputy Secretary Operations, Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade,  Mr John Yamin,  when . receiving the donations on behalf of the Government,  extended the PNG Government’s sincere gratitude to  the  Republic of China (Taiwan).

He admits that  COVID- 19 has placed added stress on the country’s  already challenged health care system and that this donation that includes ventilators, infrared thermal imaging cameras, active exhalation devices, protective apparel, face masks, swab kits, cartridges, among others, will go a long way to help our medical practitioners and frontline workers.

Mr Yamin acknowledged that this is the second time that the Taiwan Government and its people have extended their generosity to the people of PNG with such donation.

The first donation was made in April this year where elven thousand (11,000) masks was handed over directly to the former Minister for Health, Hon. Jelta Wong.

He further added that PNG will continue to welcome such goodwill gestures from our development partners during these trying times.
