PNG’s total coronavirus cases reach 588 as two new cases reported in NCD today

The National Capital District (NCD)  today recorded two additional coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s total confirmed cases to 588.

One case is a 46-year-old male security guard who resides at Vabukori Village in Moresby South electorate. He had flu at the time of testing.

The second case is a 44-year-old female who resides at Gordons in Moresby North East electorate. She did not have symptoms but got tested as a requirement to return to work.

Controller of the National Pandemic Response , David Manning, says  the new cases bring  the total number of COVID-19 cases in NCD to 342.

“To date, there have been 29,002 people who were  tested for coronavirus. Additional 111 samples are pending laboratory results,” he added.

Meanwhile,  546 people  have recovered from COVID-19, while 35 active cases  are currently in isolation. The country’s death toll from COVID-19 remains at seven.

Globally, since the start of the outbreak, there has been a total 42,488,887 confirmed cases and the death toll stands at 1,149,229.

There was an increase of 490,059 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours.

In the Western Pacific Region, a total of 12 countries/territories had confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases for the region to 703,630 cases and 15,121 deaths.
