PNG’s COVID-19 infections reach 592 as NCD records a new case

The total number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Papua New Guinea has now reached 592 as an additional case was reported in the National Capital District (NCD) in the last 24 hours.

A 58-year-old male who resides in Koki in Moresby South electorate is the latest case. He was admitted to the Port Moresby General Hospital with pneumonia, and  experienced shortness of breath and cough at the time of testing.

NCD’s total COVID-19 cases now stand at 345.

To date, there have been 580 people who have recovered from COVID-19 whilst  five active cases   are being isolated. There have been seven deaths.

Fourteen provinces (including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville) have confirmed COVID-19 cases:

Globally, since the start of the outbreak, there have been a total 46,773,762 confirmed cases and the death toll stands at 1,204,562.

There was an increase of 405,922 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours.

In the Western Pacific Region, a total of 13 countries/territories had confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases for the region to 738,564 cases and 15,583 deaths.
