The National Control Centre has released figures of COVID-19 new cases and deaths for Papua New Guinea in the last 24 hours, ending Sunday, 25 April 2021.
The 166 new cases were reported in 23 districts in 14 provinces, increasing the national confirmed COVID-19 cases to 10,835, while in the same period, three deaths were also recorded raising the death toll to 105.
Commissioner of Police and Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning said two deceased men were reported in Morobe, ages 60 and 78, while West Sepik recorded a death in a 58 year old man.
Of the 166 cases, the National Capital District recorded, 33; Morobe (49);; Western Highlands (43); Autonomous Region of Bougainville (12); Manus (8); Eastern Highlands (7); Central (4); East New Britain,(2); Hela (2); New Ireland (2); Enga (1); Gulf (1); Southern Highlands (1) and West Sepik (1).
From the new positive cases, 94 were males, 67 females and five not stated. At the time of testing, 118 cases experienced symptoms of COVID-19 whilst 48 were asymptomatic. Mr Manning said to date, the National Control Centre had completed 86,619 tests for COVID-19, while 674 tests were pending laboratory results.
Meanwhile, a total of 8,561 people have recovered from COVID-19 , whilst 2,169 cases are active in the last 14-day period.
