PNG reports 3 new COVID-19 cases bringing total to 684

The National Capital District (NCD) and East New Britain (ENB) have reported new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total cases in the country to 684.

Two of the new cases are health care workers from Kimbe, West New Britain who are attending a workshop in ENB.

Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning, said  the cases were  both asymptomatic. however, other workshop participants have tested negative and are in home quarantine.

NCD, on the other hand, reported one new case who is a 53-year-old male , who  was tested in Port Moresby General Hospital.

The case had fever, cough, loss of taste and smell and shortness of breath. He has recently travelled to Lae, Morobe province.

To date, the country’s total number of COVID-19 is at 684, including seven known COVID-19 deaths.

Mr Manning  added that   601 people had  recovered whilst 76 active cases are in isolation.

There are 16 provinces including AROB that have reported cases. The distribution of the cases is as follows:

Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 65,870,030, including 605,211 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.

The death toll is 1,523,585; of which 10,264 were reported in the last 24 hours.
