A single case of COVID-19 was recorded in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Sunday August 1, while increasing the total number of cases to 17,775.
The single case was reported in East New Britain, in a 34-year-old female who had experienced symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of testing.
Meanwhile, Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning, confirms that the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country is 17,775 with 192 known deaths.
To date, the National Capital District has the highest cumulative death of 74 followed by Western Highlands with 21, Eastern Highlands province has 14 deaths, East New Britain 10, Morobe, Simbu and Jiwaka reported nine deaths each.
The Autonomous Region of Bougainville and East Sepik have recorded seven deaths each, West New Britain six, Milne Bay five, Western and Manus four deaths each. West Sepik , three, Hela, Central, Madang and New Ireland two deaths each and a single death each for Southern Highlands, and Enga.
A total of 84,673 people have been vaccinated to date since the vaccine roll-out in May this year.
This includes 8,889 health workers; 51,344 essential workers; and 24,440 with comorbidities.
Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 198,508,558 including 535,905 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll stands at 4,232,439 including 8,904 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
