Papua New Guinea recorded another COVID-19 death increasing the death toll to 13, and confirmed 20 new cases today ( 27 February, 2021), bringing the country’s total to 1295.
A 49-year-old male from the National Capital District is the latest reported COVID-19 death., who was experiencing a cough and shortness of breath when he was admitted, until his death.
Meantime , Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning said the confirmed cases of COVID-19 were recorded in West Sepik, Southern Highlands, Autonomous Region of Bougainville and in the National Capital District.
“In the NCD, nine new cases were reported of which five are males and four females. The youngest of the nine cases is 26 years of age and the oldest being 56 years old.
“Seven of the nine cases were showing symptoms of COVID-19 whilst two cases were asymptomatic at the time of testing.”
There were eight new cases reported in West Sepik, of which four are males and four females with ages ranging from 20 to 69 years old.
“All eight cases were asymptomatic at the time of testing but swab samples returned otherwise. Five out of the eight cases came into contact with previous positive cases,” Mr Manning said.
At the same time, a 22 year old male and 45 year old mine worker from Nipa – Kutubu, Southern Highlands, were the latest positive cases. One of the men recently travelled from NCD.
Mr Manning also confirmed a 40-year-old male from North Bougainville, in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, who was the latest confirmed positive case . The case from North Bougainville was showing symptoms of COVID-29 at the time of testing.
Seventeen provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) have reported cases.

Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 112,649,371 including 427,644 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll is 2,501,229 of which 10,093 were reported in the last 24 hours.
