PNG records 259 new Covid-19 cases

Papua New Guinea recorded  259   new Covid-19  cases in the last 24 hours ending Friday, 29 October 2021, increasing the total number of  cases to 29,367.

The  new cases were detected in 13 provinces, with the  National Capital District reporting the highest number of  70 infections, followed by Morobe with 47; Western Highlands, 25; Madang 22; Eastern Highlands 21; East New Britain 21; East Sepik 15; Central 13; Manus 9;Southern Highlands 8; Enga 4; Jiwaka 2 and Milne Bay 1.

In the same period, seven  new Covid-19  deaths were reported in Madang while Morobe  recorded one, bringing the  cumulative  death toll to 368.  

Meanwhile, Covid-19 Updates from the  National Control Centre  has also  showed that 26,486 people have recovered from the virus, whilst Delta cases remain at 192.

Cumulative  figures of Covid-19 cases, recovered  people and deaths  throughout the   22 provinces are covered as follows:

  • National Capital District, 8 042 cases; 7015 recovered; 102 deaths, 73 Delta cases;
  • Western, 3584 cases, 3526 recovered, 33 deaths, 31 delta cases;
  • Western Highlands, 2 444 cases, 2176 recovered, 49 deaths,
  • Morobe, 2 268 cases,2 1 05 recovered, 16 deaths, 19 delta cases;
  • Eastern Highlands, 1 770 cases, 1635 recovered, 51 deaths, 1 delta case;
  • East New Britain , 1543 cases, 1375 recovered, 12 deaths
  • West New Britain , 1141 cases, 1135 recovered,, 6 deaths;
  • Madang, 996 cases, 783 recovered, 20 deaths, 2 delta case;
  • Enga, 984 cases, 929 recovered, 3 deaths;
  • Milne Bay, 760 cases, 565 recovered, 5 deaths;
  • West Sepik, 741 cases,713 recovered, 12  deaths, 56 delta cases;
  • Southern Highlands, 672 cases, 476 recovered, 3 deaths, 3 delta cases;
  • New Ireland, 602 cases,596 recovered, 5 deaths;
  • Manus, 547 cases, 530 recovered, 3 deaths, 1 delta case;
  • Central, 569 cases, 445 recovered, 2 deaths, 3 delta cases;
  • Chimbu, 569 cases, 524 recovered, 10 deaths, 1 delta case;
  • Autonomous Region of Bougainville, 485 cases, 458 recovered, 2 deaths;
  • East Sepik, 451 cases, 441 recovered, 7 deaths;
  • Hela, 444 cases, 397 recovered, 2 deaths, 1 delta case;
  • Jiwaka, 366 cases, 276 recovered, 24 deaths;
  • Northern, 198 cases, 197 recovered;
  • Gulf, 191 cases, 189 recovered.

Meantime, the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, New Ireland and Gulf  still remain low risk provinces, with West Sepik, East Sepik,  Western, East and West New Britain and Manus, listed as medium risk provinces, whilst  Hela, Jiwaka, Enga, Chimbu, Eastern Highlands, Western Highlands, Southern Highlands,  Madang, Morobe, Central, Northern, Milne Bay , are  categorized as high risk provinces.
