PNG records 13 new cases of COVID-19

Papua New Guinea recorded  13 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours ending  Friday  8 April 2022, bringing the  total  cumulative number of   infections to 43,499.

The  13 new cases were detected in Madang.

In its latest COVID-19 updates, the  National Control Centre, has confirmed  a total of   42, 768  people have  recovered  from the virus,  while the death toll  remains at  643.

The  same report has further confirmed  that  the Delta variant cases remained at  741 while   the   Omicron  variant cases  have increased to 375.

In the meantime, the cumulative   Covid-19  statistics for the 22 provinces   are  summarized below::

– NCD –  11735 cases, 11588  recoveries, 102 deaths, 207 delta cases, 136 Omicron cases;

– Western  – 3745 cases, 3712 recoveries, 33 deaths,43 delta cases, 10 omicron cases;

– Western Highlands  – 3129 cases, 3048 recoveries, 79 deaths, four delta cases, six omicron cases;

– Eastern Highlands – 2704  cases, 2582 recoveries, 120 deaths, 22 delta cases,     four Omicron cases;

– Morobe  – 2604  cases,2553 recoveries, 51 deaths, 87 delta cases, 48 omicron cases;

– East New Britain – 2355 cases, 2324 recoveries, 31 deaths, 30 delta cases, five omicron cases;

– Madang – 1785 cases, 1750  recoveries, 29 deaths, four delta cases, two omicron cases;

–  Milne Bay – 1560 cases, 1553 recoveries, five deaths, three delta cases;

– Southern Highlands – 1289  cases, 1236 recoveries, 53 deaths, 43 delta cases, nine omicron cases;

– Central  – 1250 cases, 1246  recoveries, two deaths, 10 delta cases,  18 Omicron    cases;

– West New Britain  – 1244 cases, 1238 recoveries, six deaths, 44 delta cases;

– Enga – 1213 cases, 1195 recoveries, seven deaths, four delta cases, five omicron cases;

–  Autonomous Region of Bougainville – 1201 cases, 1181 recoveries, 19 deaths,15  delta cases;

– New Ireland  – 1182 cases, 1156 recoveries, 13 deaths, 34 delta cases, one omicron case;

– Chimbu – 1074 cases, 1063 recoveries, 11 deaths, 14 delta cases, 11 omicron cases;

– Hela –  1067 cases,  1053 recoveries, 14  deaths, 35 delta cases,  six  Omicron cases;

– Manus –  898 cases, 887  recoveries, 11 deaths, 29  delta cases;

– West Sepik  – 881  cases, 868 recoveries, 13 deaths, 70  delta cases;

– East Sepik  – 758 cases, 750 recoveries, eight deaths, 27 delta cases, one omicron case;

– Northern  – 657  cases, 650  recoveries, six deaths;

– Gulf – 645 cases, 642 recoveries, 13 delta cases;

– Jiwaka  – 523 cases, 493 recoveries, 30 deaths, three delta cases, two omicron cases.

The number of Covid-19  tests conducted to date as well as the  latest  number of Delta and Omicron variant cases in the provinces are not included in this report.
