Papua New Guinea’s confirmed cases of COVID-19 have reached 35,966 since the outbreak in the country in March 2020.
Deputy Controller of the National Pandemic Response, Dr Esorom Daoni, in his virtual media briefing today, highlighted the status of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours ending midday, Tuesday 14 December 2021.
In the same reporting period, a total of 35,162 persons have recovered from the virus, while the death toll stands at 587.
Dr Daoni further confirmed four new case in the National Capital District (three) and Morobe (one).
There were also 28 new cases of Delta variant reported, bringing the total number to 627, while the number of tests conducted so far is 267,441.
In the same period, the total number of vaccine doses administered is 379,791, while 283,915 persons at least received one dose, where as 220,103 people are fully vaccinated.
The target or 20 percent of the population to be vaccinated in the country is 1,869,279.
The summary of the COVID-19 cases in the 22 provinces is as follows:
- NCD – 9311 cases, 9175 recoveries, 102 deaths, 196 delta cases;
- Western – 3610 cases, 3577 recoveries, 33 deaths, 43 delta cases;
- Western Highlands – 2722 cases, 2635 recoveries, 79 deaths, four delta cases;
- Morobe – 2491 cases, 2442 recoveries, 47 deaths, 79 delta cases;
- East New Britain – 2192 cases, 2109 recoveries, 27 deaths, 28 delta cases;
- Eastern Highlands – 2155 cases, 2064 recoveries, 90 deaths, 22 delta cases;
- Madang – 1267 cases, 1233 recoveries, 29 deaths, four delta cases;
- West New Britain – 1227 cases, 1221 recoveries, six deaths, 32 delta cases;
- Milne Bay – 1212 cases, 1195 recoveries, five deaths, three delta cases;
- Chimbu – 1058 cases, 1047 recoveries, 11 deaths,14 delta cases;
- Enga – 1046 cases, 1036 recoveries, seven deaths, four delta cases;
- Southern Highlands – 1039 cases, 975 recoveries, 53 deaths, 28 delta cases (new cases);
- Autonomous Region of Bougainville – 905 cases, 829 recoveries, 15 deaths, 15 delta cases;
- Central – 820 cases, 811 recoveries, two deaths, seven delta cases;
- New Ireland – 801 cases, 769 recoveries, 11 deaths, 11 delta cases;
- West Sepik -774 cases, 761 recoveries, 13 deaths, 67 delta cases;
- Hela – 760 cases 746 recoveries, six deaths 31 delta cases;
- East Sepik- 688 cases, 679 recoveries, eight deaths, 16 delta cases;
- Manus – 626 cases, 614 recoveries, 11 deaths, 11 delta cases;
- Gulf- 475 cases, 470 recoveries, 10 delta cases;
- Jiwaka – 421 cases, 391 recoveries, 29 deaths, two delta cases;
- Northern – 366 cases 363 recoveries, three deaths.
Dr Daoni is again appealing to citizens to get tested and vaccinated.
Meanwhile, global confirmed cases of COVID-19 have reached 271,678,486 including 5,335,957 deaths.
