Papua New Guinea’s COVID-19 cases reach 17,079

There were  38 new COVID-19 cases recorded  in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Tuesday June 22, increasing the total number of cases to 17,079.

Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning, said the cases were reported in 11 provinces with the Autonomous Region of Bougainville reporting 11 cases, followed by New Ireland with six cases. Western Highlands, Southern Highlands, National Capital District and East New Britain reported four  each. West New Britain, Madang, Enga, Central and Milne Bay reported a single case each.

Of the 38 cases reported, 30 are males and eight  females. Their ages range from eight to 71 years. Mr Manning confirmed that the  country’s COVID-19 cases  has reached 17,079 with 173 known deaths.  A total of 16,480 recoveries have been recorded to date, with 131,146 tests conducted so far.

 All 22 provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) have reported cases. The distribution of the cases are as follows:

Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 179,536,271 including 278,182 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll stands at 3,888,377 including 5,836 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
