A 58-year-old male employee of Newcrest Mining Limited in Lihir is the latest coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case reported in the New Ireland Province.
The case travelled from Buka in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville and was experiencing sore throat at the time of testing. He is currently isolated.
Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning, said that as of 6 November, 11 contacts in New Ireland had been identified, with further contact tracing being undertaken.
This latest case brings the total cases in New Ireland to two and 599 for the country.
Of the total cases, 585 people have recovered from COVID-19 whilst there are seven active cases being isolated. PNG reported seven COVID-19 deaths.
To date, 29,466 people have been tested for coronavirus. Additional 66 samples are pending laboratory results.

Globally, since the start of the outbreak, there have been a total 49,572,828 confirmed cases and the death toll stands at 1,246,949
There was an increase of 551,343 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours.
In the Western Pacific Region, a total of 14 countries/territories had confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases for the region to 760,308 cases and 15,903 deaths.
