New cases of Coronavirus detected in nine provinces

A total of 36 new cases of  COVID-19  were detected in nine provinces in the last 24 hours, ending Thursday 2 December 2021,  increasing the country’s  tally to 35,390.

Of the new cases,  nine  were reported in Gulf;  seven each in National Capital District and East New Britain; five in Western Highlands;  three in Southern Highlands; two each in Enga and Autonomous Region of Bougainville; and  one in Hela.

There were no new cases reported in the other provinces.

According to the  National Control Centre statistics, a total of 34,322 people have recovered from the virus, while 251,736 Covid-19 tests have been conducted to date.

There were 550  virus- deaths recorded including 298 confirmed cases of Delta variant.

As of 1 December 2021, a total of 369, 781 vaccine doses have been administered, while 278, 880 persons have at least received their first dose, with 210,805 people  being fully vaccinated.

In the same period,  the cumulative figures  of the virus for the 22 provinces, are as follows:

  • NCD – 9222 cases,  9029 recoveries, 102 deaths, 112 delta cases;
  • Western – 3610 cases, 3573 recoveries,33 deaths, 32 delta cases;
  • Western Highlands – 2713 cases, 2607 recoveries, 79 deaths, two delta cases;
  • Morobe  – 2485 cases, 2456 recoveries, 27 deaths, 59 delta cases;
  • Eastern Highlands – 2137 cases, 2045 recoveries, 90 deaths, eight delta cases;
  • East New Britain – 2130 cases, 1975 recoveries, 26 deaths, one delta case;
  • Madang – 1262 cases, 1222 recoveries, 29 deaths, four delta cases;
  • West  New Britain – 1203 cases, 1197 recoveries, six deaths;
  • Milne Bay – 1132 cases, 1107 recoveries, five deaths;
  • Chimbu – 1058 cases, 1047 recoveries, 11 deaths, one delta case;
  • Enga – 1041 cases, 1029 recoveries, six deaths, three delta cases;
  • Southern Highlands – 1027 cases, 939 recoveries, 53 deaths;
  • Central – 810 cases, 781 recoveries, two deaths, four delta cases;
  • Autonomous Region of Bougainville – 794 cases, 724 recoveries, nine deaths;
  • West Sepik – 762 cases, 748 recoveries, 13 deaths, 56 delta cases;
  • Hela  – 743 cases, 712 recoveries, six deaths, 13 delta cases;
  • New  Ireland – 726 cases, 714 recoveries, nine deaths, one delta case;
  • East Sepik – 667 cases, 658 recoveries, eight deaths;
  • Manus – 618 cases, 610 recoveries, eight deaths, two delta cases;
  • Jiwaka  – 421 cases, 381 recoveries, 29 deaths;
  • Gulf  – 467 cases, 406 recoveries;
  • Northern – 362 cases, 362 recoveries.

From the provincial figures, Northern  has all its cases recovered.

In the meantime,  the total number of   confirmed cases  of COVID-19 globally, has  reached  263,563,622, including 5,232,562 deaths..
