NCD records three new COVID-19 cases

The National Capital District (NCD) has recorded three new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the last 24 hours.

The latest cases are two men and a woman, with ages ranging from 21 to 50 years old.

They are currently  being isolated while the rapid response team of NCD is carrying out contact tracing.

A 50-year old subsistence farmer who resides in North West electorate had fever, cough and headache. He was swabbed and tested positive for the virus.

The other case is a 25-year old male who works as a security officer at Gordons and resides in Morata. He tested positive for COVID-19 during a routine medical check.

A 21-year old pregnant woman who resides in Hohola, experienced shortness of breath. She was then confirmed positive for COVID-19.

The latest reported cases bring the total COVID-19 cases in PNG to 531, with seven deaths. There are 509 persons who have recovered.

To date, PNG has already tested 23,777 persons for coronavirus. Of those tested, 23,246 have turned out to be negative. An additional 91 samples are pending laboratory results.

With the rapid rise in the cases, Controller of the National Pandemic Response, Mr David Manning has called on the citizens to adhere to COVID-19 prevention measures and come forward for COVID-19 testing.

Globally, the total confirmed cases have reached 31,743, 279 and the death toll stands at 973,949.

There was an increase of 249,864 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours.

In the Western Pacific region, a total of 12 countries/territories had confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases for the region to 587,683 cases and 12,805 deaths.
