NCD records three new COVID-19 cases

The National Capital District  recorded three new cases of  Coronavirus on Wednesday 12 January 2022, increasing the total number of cases in the country  to 36,432.

NCD was the only province to register  three  new cases.

In its latest COVID-19 update, the National  Control Centre (NCC) has also  reported  a total  of 35,775 people  have recovered from the virus, while the death toll stands at 595 and Delta cases  remain at 706.

At the same time, a summary of the vaccination coverage has indicated, the  total number of vaccine doses  being administered has reached 388,803, with 290,348 people having received at least one dose while 228,574 have been  fully dosed .

NCC has further clarified that the  vaccines currently used in the country are AstraZeneca (239,293 people vaccinated), Johnson and Johnson (130,119) and Sinopharm (19,391).

In the meantime, the COVID-19 tests conducted so far  have reached 283,183.

There have been  urgent  calls  for Papua New Guineans to get tested to minimise the spread of the virus.
