Nation’s COVID-19 death toll rises to 91 while total cases increase to 9,952

Papua New Guinea has recorded one new COVID-19 death in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday, Monday April 19, increasing the total number of deaths to 91.

A 48-year-old  man from Western Highlands Province died from COVID-19, increasing the number of deaths in Western Highlands to three and the national death toll to 91.

Commissioner of Police and Controller of the National Pandemic, David Manning,  said  Covid-19 related deaths  were also reported in the following provinces:   : Morobe (3); West Sepik  (3); Eastern Highlands (6); Jiwaka (5); National Capital District (60); West New Britain (4); East Sepik (2); New Ireland  (2);  Western (2)  and Enga  (1).

Mr Manning also confirmed  153 new positive cases  in the last 24 hours  from 24 districts in 12 provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) thus increasing the national total COVID-19 cases to 9,952.

NCD reported 28 cases, the  Autonomous Region of Bougainville , 24; New Ireland , 10; Central, 7 , Eastern Highlands, 2;  Enga, 1; Northern, 1;  Jiwaka,3; Morobe, 13; West New Britain, 6;  West Sepik 29;  and Western province, 29.

Of the 153 cases, 98 are males, 51 females and four not stated. Their ages range between four to 72 years. At the time of testing, 66 cases were showing signs of COVID-19 whilst 45 were asymptomatic.

The  total number of cases in the 22 provinces is as follows: NCD, (4101); Central, (156); Gulf, (27); Western, (2330); Milne Bay, (58); Northern, (4); Morobe, (435);Madang, (115); East Sepik, (105); West Sepik, (385); Eastern Highlands, (468); Simbu, (113); Jiwaka, (82); Western Highlands, (352); Southern Highlands, (88); Enga, (98); Hela, (37); Manus, (15); East New Britain, (371); West New Britain, (284); New Ireland, (133) and the  Autonomous Region of Bougainville, (195).

Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 is 140,322,903 including 809,004 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The global death toll is 3,003,794 including 11,481 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.
