Police Commissioner and Controller of the PNG COVID-19 National Pandemic Response, David Manning has expressed his deepest condolences upon learning of the death of Deputy Controller,  Dr Paison Dakulala this morning.

“I am deeply saddened at the death of a humble, dedicated and committed medical professional in Dr Dakulala.

“Over the last one year since we were brought together to provide the leadership for PNG’s fight against COVID-19 I have found him to be a humble leader, true friend and mentor.

“Dr Dakulala was a selfless man and despite his medical condition he stood with me and provided support and advice as we took on a global pandemic that has affected millions of people around the world.

He has contributed to the country’s best efforts against COVID-19.

“ I have never met a more dedicated officer such as Dr Dakulala. He cared for our people and gave everything into the PNG Government response to COVID-19.

“On behalf of my family, members of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary and the officers of the Joint Agency Task Force I wish to pass on our sincerest condolences to the late Dr Dakulala’s family, Health Secretary Dr Osborne Liko and staff of the National Department of Health.

“I thank his family also for their husband and father’s contribution to the people of Papua New Guinea in the public health space and especially over the recent year in our COVID-19 response.

“May God grant us the peace and comfort us all as we mourn his passing,” Mr Manning said.
