Korean Association donates to PNG’s COVID-19 operations

The Government of Papua New Guinea has received overwhelming support from Bilateral Partners, Aid Agencies and the Business Community in its fight to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the country.Today the Minister for Health and HIV /AIDS, the Hon. Jelta Wong and the Controller of the State of Emergency, Mr David Manning, received a ‘heartfelt’ donation from the Korean Association in Papua New Guinea. As a devote member of the Papua New Guinean business community, the Korean Association fundraised and presented a total of K71,000.00 to Minister Wong today.

The money was raised by the Korean businesses operating in Port Moresby, Kimbe, Bialla, (West New Britain), Lae (Morobe) Mt. Hagen(Western Highlands) Kainantu, Goroka (Eastern Highlands) and Misima (Milne Bay ). “A friend in need is a friend indeed and the Korean Association sincerely wishes fellow Papua New Guineans to use their wisdom to combat against pandemic of Coronavirus,” Chairman of the Korean Association Mr Peter D.H Kang, said.

In response Minister Wong said, “The Korean government established diplomatic relations with Papua New Guinea only a year after our independence – so our connection is deep rooted and is a relationship we hold dear. “I thank the Korean Association who have come to us in our time of need, the contribution is well received and will be deposited into the established trust account specifically for COVID-19 operations.

“It is not the amount of money that is important, but the fact that the association has thought to help us which resonates with our culture. `Pasin em bikpla samting’,” Minister Wong said.
