The Commissioner of Police and Controller of the PNG COVID-19 National Pandemic Response David Manning has issued a strong warning to all owners, operators, drivers and crew of public motor vehicles (PMVs) nationwide to strictly comply with COVID-19 protocols or risk being pulled off the road and deregistered.
Mr Manning is giving PMV owners and operators until 4pm on Wednesday March 24, the opportunity to get masks and hand sanitizers, and proper equipment for cleaning buses whilst in operation.
“They are also to ensure all passengers who board their vehicles are masked. By 4pm PMVs who do not follow these simple measures aimed at stopping the spread of COVID-19 will be pulled off the road.
“The buses and trucks will be impounded and they may lose their licenses to operate.
“PMV operators, drivers and crew members have a duty to follow all COVID-19 health protocols and ensure their passengers comply as well. We all need to do our part to mitigate and stop the spread of COVID-19,” Mr Manning said.
