NCD reports 3 new COVID-19 case: bringing PNG total to 554

Three additional coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases have been reported in the National Capital District (NCD) in the last 24 hours bringing Papua New Guinea’s total cases to 554.

The new cases bring the total confirmed cases for NCD to 334.

Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning said, two of the new cases, a seven-year-old boy and 30-year-old woman, are from 9-Mile. They are both asymptomatic contacts of a previously identified case.

The other case is a 26-year-old woman who resides at Waigani. She had fever, cough and sore throat at the time of testing.

To date, 26,620 people have been tested for coronavirus. Additional 31 samples are pending laboratory results.

There have been 528 people who have recovered from COVID-19 whilst there are 10 active cases that are being isolated. The country’s death from COVID-19 remains at seven.

Globally, since the start of the outbreak, there has been a total 37,454,199 confirmed cases and the death toll stands at 1,077,291.

There was an increase of 355,878 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours.

In the Western Pacific region, a total of 12 countries/territories had confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases for the region to 651,374 cases and 14,259 deaths.
