Prime Minister Hon. James Marape says his government aims to move away from foreign investment and be self-reliant.
He urged the people of Milne Bay during the official opening of the Alotau Main market, in Alotau, to be self-sufficient in the business sector.
He said we should not rely on foreign investment for all our benefits.
“This government aims to empower our small people to be engaged in our SMEs.
“Let’s refrain from free handouts from our Government and start making money for ourselves, through SMEs,” Mr Marape said.
He said this market brings more opportunity for the people of Milne Bay to sell their produce in a more conducive environment, and urged them to take ownership of this new facility and take good care of it.
Mr Marape was is Alotau over the weekend and returned to Port Moresby on Sunday, August 23.
