Papua New Guinea reported four new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on 21 November, increasing the country’s total cases to 609.
Three cases were reported from the National Capital District (NCD) while one case was reported from Morobe Province.
The cases from NCD were all females from Moresby South who all had symptoms of COVID-19 and tested at the Pacific International Hospital. One of them is an 87-year-old woman.
The one case from Morobe is a 35-year-old man from Lae who was tested at the ANGAU Memorial Provincial Hospital. He is asymptomatic.
When announcing the four new cases for PNG, the National Pandemic Response Controller Mr David Manning once again reminded the public to take heed of the measures against COVID-19.
“We need to do everything possible to stop the spread of this virus. At this stage, taking preventive measures is the way to go so I appeal to everyone in the community to do their part.
“Always adhere to the New Normal or Niupela Pasin measures – and this includes frequent handwashing, physical distancing of 1.5 metres from the next person and avoiding crowds,” Mr Manning said.

PNG has tested 30,027 people for COVID-19, of which 609 were confirmed positive. There are 588 recoveries and seven deaths. All the people who died from COVID-19 had co-morbidities.
Globally, the number of confirmed cases continue to rise. In the last 24 hours, a total of 594,542 new cases were reported, increasing the total confirmed cases to 55,928,327 The death toll is now 1,344,003 including 9,989 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours. The Western Pacific Region confirmed 5,594 new cases from 15 countries, including PNG.
