Death toll at 586, Delta cases increase to 592

Papua New Guinea’s death toll has increased to 586 while the Delta variant cases have  reached 592, as of Friday, 10 December 2021.

In its latest COVID-19 updates, the National Control Centre has also confirmed 38 new cases in the same period, increasing the total number of  infections to 35,927,  including  35,053 recovered cases.

NCC  further reported  that from the new cases , the Autonomous Region of Bougainville recorded (14), Central and New Ireland (five each), NCD (four), Gulf (three), Hela and Southern Highlands (one each).

A summary of the provincial statistics  for the same period  are as follows:

  • NCD – 9303 cases, 9,159 recoveries, 102 deaths, 162 delta cases;
  • Western – 3610 cases, 3577 recoveries, 33 deaths, 33 delta cases;
  • Western Highlands – 2717 cases, 2631 recoveries, 79 deaths, three delta cases;
  • Morobe – 2489 cases, 2441 recoveries, 27 deaths, 65 delta cases;
  • East New Britain – 2186 cases, 2092 recoveries, 26 deaths, one delta case;
  • Eastern Highlands – 2150 cases, 2063 recoveries, 90 deaths, 22 delta cases;
  • Madang –  1267 cases, 1231 recoveries, 29 deaths, four delta cases;
  • West New Britain – 1203 cases, 1197 recoveries, six deaths;
  • Milne Bay – 1203 cases, 1193 recoveries, five deaths, one delta case;
  • Chimbu – 1058 cases, 1047 recoveries, 11 deaths, 14 delta cases;
  • Enga – 1045 cases, 1034 recoveries, seven deaths, four delta cases;
  • Southern Highlands – 1038 cases, 971 recoveries, 53 deaths;
  • Autonomous Region of Bougainville –  902 cases, 813 recoveries, eight deaths;
  • Central  – 819 cases, 802 recoveries, two deaths, four delta cases;
  • New Ireland –  801 cases, 768 recoveries, nine deaths, one delta case;
  • West Sepik  – 774 cases, 761 recoveries, 13 deaths, 56 delta cases;
  • Hela – 757 cases, 743 recoveries, six deaths, 13 delta cases;
  • East Sepik  – 688 cases, 679 recoveries, eight deaths;
  • Manus – 625 cases, 615 recoveries, eight deaths, two delta cases;
  • Gulf – 475 cases, 460 recoveries;
  • Jiwaka – 421 cases, 309 recoveries,  29 deaths, two delta cases;
  • Northern  – 366 cases, 363 recoveries.

The total number of tests conducted so far has been pushed up to 265,090.
