COVID-19 death toll increases to 60 as the country’s cases reach 5991

Papua New Guinea has recorded four new COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Tuesday March 30, increasing the country’s total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 60.

 

All four deaths were reported in the National Capital District. Two females aged 19 and 63  were  among two males, aged 44 and 49 who died from COVID-19. To date, the NCD recorded 48 COVID-19 deaths which is the highest followed by West Sepik with three deaths. West New Britain, Western Highlands and Western Province recorded two deaths each, whilst Enga, Jiwaka and the Morobe provinces recorded a death each.

This brings the total number of deaths so far to 60. Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning  also confirmed in the  last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Tuesday March 30, 371 new cases of COVID-19 increasing the country’s total cases to 5,991. Western Province reported 78 new cases of which 74 are males, one female and three not stated.

Their ages range from 23 to 56. Three cases were showing symptoms of COVID-19 whilst 69 cases were asymptomatic at the time of testing. The NCD  meanwhile, reported 204 new cases of which 123 are males, 78 females and three not stated.

The youngest was ten-years-old whilst the oldest was 69. Thirty-one cases showed symptoms of COVID-19 whilst 171 were asymptomatic at the time of testing. Morobe province reported 31 new cases of which seven are males, 23 females and one not stated. Their ages range from 24 to 70 years. All 31 cases showed symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of testing. Mr Manning said there were  36 new cases reported in Western Highlands province, of which 22 are  males  and 14 females.

The youngest was a three-year-old whilst the oldest was 64. Twenty-two cases showed symptoms of COVID-19 whilst 14 were asymptomatic at the time of testing. The Autonomous Region of Bougainville reported eight new cases of which five are males and three females, with  ages ranging  from 16 to 60. Three of the cases showed symptoms of COVID-19 whilst five were asymptomatic at the time of testing.

The Central province reported four new cases of which three are males and a female, with ages ranging  from 26 to 54 years. Three cases were asymptomatic whilst one showed symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of testing. Four males were  tested positive  with COVID-19  in Simbu province, with ages between  31 and 56. All four cases showed symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of testing. Mr Manning also confirmed three new cases in Enga province  of which two are males and a female.Their ages range from 45 to 60 years.

Two cases were showing symptoms of COVID-19 whilst one was asymptomatic at the time of testing. There were  two new cases  reported in Jiwaka whilst a single case was reported in West New Britain. Of the three, two are males and  a female. Their ages range from 25 to 50 years. All three cases showed symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of testing.

There are currently 20  provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB)  with  reported cases. The distribution of the cases is as follows:

  • Jiwaka – 31;
  • Hela – 20;
  • Gulf – 13; and
  • Milne Bay – 11.

Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 127,349,248 including 427,964 new cases reported. The cumulative global death toll is 2,787,593 of which 9,997 were reported in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Tuesday March 30 2021..
