Papua New Guinea has recorded eight new COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Wednesday April 21, increasing the total number of deaths to 99.
Five deaths were reported in Milne Bay, of which three were males, ages 34, 58 and 76 and two females ages 50 and 52, while three deaths were recorded in the National Capital District, of which all three were males at the ages of 60, 62 and 68.
Commissioner of Police and Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning said, the death toll in NCD alone has reached 63, Eastern Highlands six, Jiwaka and Milne Bay five deaths each, West New Britain four whilst West Sepik, Morobe and Western Highlands recorded three deaths each. New Ireland, East Sepik and Western province had two deaths each whilst Enga recorded a single death.
Mr Manning also confirmed 141 new cases that were reported in 14 provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. All 22 PNG provinces have reported COVID-19 cases.
The confirmed national COVID-19 total is now 10,388 inclusive of the 99 deaths. Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 is 141,754,944 including 656,406 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The global death toll is 3,025,835 including 10,503 new cases reported in the last 24 hours
