Five new COVID-19 cases were detected and one death reported in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Monday 19 July, increasing the total number of cases to 17,524, and death toll to 192.
All five cases were recorded in four provinces: two in the National Capital District and one each in Simbu, East New Britain and New Ireland provinces.
Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning said the known COVID-19 death was reported in the Madang province, increasing the country’s death toll to 192.
All five cases were males with their ages range from 27 to 58 years.
He added that two of the new cases were experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of testing and two had underlying medical conditions, while two others had contact with confirmed COVID-19 cases.
To date, a total of 143,569 people have tested for COVID-19. Of the total confirmed cases to date 17,173 have recovered with 159 cases considered active within the last 21-day period.
All 22 provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) have reported cases.
Mr Manning further said, as of July 18 a total of 68,830 people in PNG have been vaccinated. This includes 8,327 health workers, 47,721 essential workers and 12,782 people with comorbidities or existing medical conditions.
Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 191,175,923. The death toll stands at 4,105,009.
