The country’s COVID-19 cases have risen to 16,185 after 169 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Wednesday June 2.
Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning, said the cases were reported in 15 provinces with West New Britain reporting the highest with 74 cases, followed by Northern Province recording 36 cases, Western Highlands 16, Enga 12, Eastern Highlands seven, National Capital District six, Hela four, Morobe, New Ireland, the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Central, Southern Highlands and Gulf two cases each and Milne Bay reported a single case.
Of the 169 cases reported, 105 were males whilst 64 were females. Their ages range from four to 64 years. A total of 97 cases were showing symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of testing. The country’s total number of COVID-19 cases now stands at 16,185 with 162 known deaths.
Mr Manning also said a total of 15,408 recoveries have been recorded, while 115,252 people have so far been tested for COVID-19. All 22 provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) have reported cases.

Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 171,916,681 including 447,206 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll stands at 3,575,556 including 10,393 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
