Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning, today issued a direction to the PNG Sports Foundation, to provide immediate access, usage and occupation of the Rita Flynn sporting complex to the National Capital District Provincial Health Authority.
Mr Manning’s direction was a result of expert advice from health professionals who are working tirelessly at the National Control Centre to protect PNG from the COVID-19 pandemic and after having received a request from the NCD Provincial Health Authority Acting Chairman Mr Ken Wai.
“The complex is urgently needed due to an upsurge in cases in the NCD.
“The isolation ward at the Port Moresby General Hospital and the Gerehu hospitals are full and it is critical that Rita Flynn is made available as a temporary field hospital for COVID-19 patients, in particular, so that both PMGH and Gerehu can continue to serve the public without risking the health of inpatients and staff.
“It is a matter of national importance that PNG continues to take strong measures to protect the health of our people,” Mr Manning added.
