Papua New Guinea’s total confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have reached 532 after a new case was reported in the National Capital District (NCD) in the last 24 hours
The latest COVID-19 case is a 21-year-old woman from the Gerehu suburb in the North West electorate. She is now isolated at the Rita Flynn whilst the NCD response teams are carrying out contact tracing.
The total number of confirmed cases in NCD has reached 316, prompting calls for citizens to be on the look out for symptoms of COVID-19 and get tested at the earliest.
“People from all sorts of backgrounds are getting infected, including young people and professionals. I remind everyone that there are designated health facilities in all the provinces and drive through facilities in Port Moresby for the public to come forward for testing,” National Pandemic Response Controller Mr David Manning said.
To date, of the 23,777 persons tested for coronavirus, 23,246 have turned out to be negative. An additional 118 samples are pending laboratory results whilst 7 active cases are currently in isolation.
So far, a total of 516 persons have recovered whilst deaths from COVID-19 remain at seven.

Globally, the total confirmed cases have reached 32,401,710 and the death toll stands at 987,156.
There was an increase of 314,842 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours.
In the Western Pacific region, a total of 11 countries/territories had confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases for the region to 594,070 cases and 12, 914 deaths.
