219 new COVID-19 cases recorded increasing PNG’s total to 8,821

Papua New Guinea recorded 219 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Monday April 12, increasing the total number of COVID-19 cases for the country to 8,821.

Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 is 134,957,752 including 646,863 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The global death toll is 2,918,752 of which 10,712 were reported in the last 24 hours.

Commissioner of Police and Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning, said  21 provinces in PNG have reported COVID-19 cases so far, with the death toll of 69 COVID-19 related deaths.

Meanwhile,  12 provinces   recorded new cases  which include  the Autonomous Region of Bougainville with 20 positives;  National Capital District; (161); Central; (14); East New Britain, (6); Western, (6); Milne Bay, (4); West New Britain, (3); East Sepik,(1); Eastern Highlands, (1); Morobe,(1); Jiwaka, (1); and Southern Highlands, (1).

The statistics for those provinces are as follows:

  • National Capital District :New cases: 161.Sex: 101 males, 59 females, 1 not stated. Age range: 3-85 years. Symptomatic: 49.Asymptomatic: 112.

Deaths: 52. Total cases: 3,677.

  • Autonomous Region of Bougainville: New cases: 20. Sex: 10 males, 10 females. Age range: 1-65 years. Symptomatic: 16. Asymptomatic: 4. Deaths: Nil. Total cases:
  • Central Province: New cases: 14. Sex: 9 males, 5 females. Age range: 29 – 73. Symptomatic: 6. Asymptomatic: 8. Deaths: Nil. Total cases:
  • East New Britain Province: New cases: 6.Sex: 2 males, 4 females. Age range: 23 – 70. Symptomatic: 5. Asymptomatic: 1. Deaths: Nil. Total cases:
  • Western Province: New cases: 6. Sex:5 males, 1 female. Age range: 31 – 53.

Symptomatic: 3. Asymptomatic: 3. Deaths: 2. Total cases: 2,250.

  • Milne Bay Province: New cases: 4.Sex:3 males, 1 female. Age range: 12 – 42.

Symptomatic: 2. Asymptomatic: 2. Deaths: Nil. Total cases: 18.

  • West New Britain Province: New cases: 3. Sex: 2 males, 1 female.

Age range: 34 – 45. Symptomatic: 3. Deaths: 2. Total cases: 240.

  • East Sepik: New cases: 1. Sex: 1 male. Age range: 25.Symptomatic: Nil.

Asymptomatic: 1. Deaths: Nil. Total cases: 85.

  • Eastern Highlands Province: New cases: 1. Sex: 1 male. Age: 51

Asymptomatic: Yes. Deaths: Nil. Total cases: 375.

  • Morobe Province: New cases: 1. Sex: 1 male. Age range: 48. Symptomatic: 1. Deaths: 3. Total cases:
  • Jiwaka Province: New cases: 1. Sex: 1 female. Age: 34. Symptomatic: Yes.

Deaths: 2. Total cases: 53.

  • Southern Highlands: New cases: 1.Sex: 1 male. Age range: 49. Asymptomatic: Yes. Deaths: Nil. Total cases:

The following  ten provinces  have  reported Covid-19  cases and related deaths:

  • Enga Province: 68 cases ( Deaths: 1)
  • West Sepik Province: 356 (Deaths 3)
  • New Ireland: 89 (Deaths 2) 
  • Gulf: 13
  • Northern : 3
  • Western Highlands Province: 312 (Deaths 2)
  • Simbu : 108
  • Madang: 87
  • Hela Province: 26
