20 new cases of Covid-19 recorded in PNG

The National Control Centre recorded 20   new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours ending midday Tuesday 1 November 2022, raising the total number of confirmed cases in Papua New Guinea to 45, 518

Of the new cases, Western Highlands reported (seven); National Capital District and Manus (four each); Gulf (three) and Eastern Highlands (two).

In its latest Covid-19 Surveillance Update, the National Control Centre further confirmed   a total  of 44,659  people  have  recovered from the virus, while the death toll remained at 668.

The Delta and Omicron variant cases have not increased in the past months, but still remained at 741 and 547 respectively.

 The provincial summary of the  cumulative   Covid-19 statistics is as follows:

– NCD – 12,817 cases, 12,663 recoveries, 102 deaths;

– Western – 3770 cases, 3722 recoveries, 33 deaths;

– Western Highlands – 3210 cases, 3074 recoveries, 92 deaths;

– Eastern Highlands – 2764 cases, 2637 recoveries, 121 deaths;

– Morobe – 2609 cases,2555 recoveries, 53 deaths;

– East New Britain – 2405 cases, 2374 recoveries, 31 deaths;

– Madang – 1793 cases, 1760 recoveries, 33 deaths;

–  Milne Bay – 1599 cases, 1592 recoveries, five deaths;

– Enga – 1458 cases, 1425 recoveries, six deaths;

– Southern Highlands – 1353 cases, 1295 recoveries, 53 deaths;

– Central – 13536cases, 1335 recoveries, two deaths;

– West New Britain – 1245 cases, 1238 recoveries, seven deaths;

– New Ireland – 1219 cases, 1205 recoveries, 13 deaths;

–  Autonomous Region of Bougainville – 1202 cases, 1183 recoveries, 19 deaths;

– Chimbu – 1189 cases, 1173 recoveries, 14 deaths;

– Hela – 1139 cases, 1117 recoveries, 14 deaths;

– Manus – 908 cases, 893 recoveries, 11 deaths;

– West Sepik – 884 cases, 871 recoveries, 13 deaths;

– East Sepik – 759 cases, 751 recoveries, eight deaths;

– Northern – 657 cases, 650 recoveries, seven deaths;

– Gulf – 652 cases, 650 recoveries; nil deaths

– Jiwaka – 527 cases, 494 recoveries, 31 deaths.

Meantime, the number  of Covid-19 tests conducted from  26 October to 1 November 2022,   stands at 2,022, of which 64  persons  were tested positive, while   13 patients were admitted to  hospitals.

According to the report, there were no patients placed on oxygen during that period.

As of 30 October 2022, the total number of doses administered was 494,272.

Types of vaccines distributed in the country are, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and Sinopharm.

 Meanwhile, the  global confirmed cases of Covid-19  as of 2 November 2022  have increased to 630,452,398, including 6,590,026 deaths.
