The National Control Centre has reported two new Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Tuesday April 13, increasing the country’s death toll to 71.
Commissioner of Police and Controller of the National Pandemic, David Manning, said both deaths were men, with ages 50 and 70, years from the Jiwaka province. This increases the number of deaths in Jiwaka province to four.
Meanwhile, a total of 170 new cases were reported from 13 provinces, in the last 24 hours, bringing the national total to 8,984. All 22 PNG provinces have reported cases of COVID-19. The country’s surveillance team continues to conduct data cleaning on provincial tally so some provincial totals may not add up directly from yesterday’s numbers. Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 is 135,646,617 including 675,707 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll is 2,930,732 of which 11,746 were reported in the last 24 hours.
