Papua New Guinea has recorded 181 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday today (Sunday 4 April), increasing the country’s total to 7,038.
Controller of the National Pandemic, David Manning said ,Western Province reported 135 new cases of which 111 are males, 22 females and two not stated.
Their ages range from 24 to 59 years, with all 135 cases being asymptomatic at the time of testing.
The National Capital District reported 22 new cases of which 18 are males, three females and one not stated, with ages between 25 and 58 years.
Four cases showed symptoms of COVID-19 whilst 18 were asymptomatic at the time of testing.
There were 24 new cases recorded in the Central Province, out of which 21 are males and three females, with ages ranging from 24 to 52 years.
Mr Manning said four persons were experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, whilst 20 were asymptomatic at the time of testing.
To date the National Capital District has recorded 49 COVID-19 deaths whilst West Sepik recorded three; West New Britain, Western Highlands and Western Provinces recorded two deaths each, whilst Enga province, Jiwaka and Morobe recorded a death each bringing the total number of deaths to 61.
The country’s COVID-19 cases now stand at 7,038 including 61 known deaths.
Twenty provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) have reported cases. The distribution is as follows:
- NCD – 2,998 (49 deaths);
- Western Province – 1,854 (2 deaths);
- West Sepik – 325 (3 deaths);
- Eastern Highlands – 297;
- Morobe – 280 (1 death);
- East New Britain – 224;
- West New Britain – 214 (2 deaths);
- Western Highlands – 152 (2 deaths);
- AROB – 105;
- Central – 91;
- New Ireland – 89;
- East Sepik – 72;
- Madang – 71;
- Southern Highlands – 66;
- Simbu – 65;
- Enga – 53 (1 death);
- Jiwaka – 33 (1 death);
- Hela – 23;
- Gulf – 13; and
- Milne Bay – 13.
Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 129,902,402 including 662,917 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll is 2,831,815 of which 11,306 were reported also in the last 24 hours.
