Papua New Guinea’s total Coronavirus disease (COVD-19) cases have increased to 866 with 12 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.
Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning, said three cases were reported in the Morobe Province while nine were reported in West New Britain Province.
Two female ages 40 and 42 and a 54-year-old male were tested positive of COVID-19 in Morobe. The 54-year-old male had arrived from East Sepik on January 22.
Mr Manning said the three cases were experiencing fever, cough, sore throat and shortness of breath at the time of testing.
In the meantime, the nine cases from Talasea district in West New Britain, who were tested positive, were four female and five males, with ages ranging from 17 to 50 years were tested positive.
Eight of the nine cases did not show symptoms of COVID-19 except for one who was experiencing fever and headache at the time of testing.
The five cases were detected through travel clearance whilst another four were detected though contact tracing.
Meanwhile, the country’s COVID-19 cases now stand at 866 with nine known deaths as of Friday 29 January, 2021.
A total of 42,789 people has tested for COVID-19. Eight hundred and twenty-seven people have recovered whilst 61 samples are pending at the laboratories. Thirty active cases are in isolation.
Sixteen provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) have reported cases. The distribution of the cases is as follows:

Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 have reached 99,864,391 including 468,808 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll is 2,149,700 of which 12,856 were reported in the last 24 hours.
