11 new COVID-19 cases detected, total infections at 17,798

ELEVEN   new COVID-19 cases  have been detected in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Thursday August 5, increasing the total number to 17,798.

The cases were reported in five provinces, with : Madang recording  (4);  National Capital District (3); West Sepik (2) and both Southern Highlands and Enga a single case each.

Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning, said, of  the 11 cases, 10 were males  and  one  female,  with ages ranging from  14 to 65 years.

Six out of the 11 cases were experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of testing.

The country’s COVID-19 cases now stand at 17,798 with 192 known deaths. The total cumulative recoveries is  17,453.

Mr Manning added that a total of 149,032 people have  so far tested for COVID-19.

All 22 provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) have reported cases.

Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 200,217,657 including 601,448 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll stands at 4,258,218 including 9,704 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
