100 new COVID-19 cases reported increasing total number of cases to 8,442

Papua New Guinea recorded 100 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Saturday April 10, increasing the total number of cases to 8,442.

The country’s COVID-19 related death toll remains at 68. Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning,  said  seven provinces recorded new COVID-19 cases on Friday April 9 , namely,  the National Capital District with 65 cases, Simbu (14);  Western, (2); Central (2);  Madang (15);  the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (1) and Eastern Highlands (1).

Details of their  respective  statistics are as follows:

National Capital District: New cases: 65. Sex: 36 males, 26 females, 3 not stated.

Age range: 12-65 years. Symptomatic: 211. Asymptomatic: 17. Deaths: 52. Total cases: 3,489.

Western Province : New cases: 2. Sex: 2 females. Age: 18 and 43. Symptomatic: 2.

Asymptomatic: Nil. Deaths: 2. Total cases: 2,224.

Eastern Highlands Province: New cases: 1.Sex: 1 male.  Age: 78. Symptomatic:

Asymptomatic: Yes. Deaths: Nil. Total cases: 374.

Simbu: New cases: 14. Sex: 10 males, 4 females. Age range: 19-60.

Symptomatic: 14. Asymptomatic: Nil. Deaths: 2. Total cases: 113.

Central Province: New cases: 2. Sex: 2 males. Age: 40 and 44. Symptomatic: 1.

Asymptomatic: 1. Deaths: Nil. Total cases: 101.

Madang: New cases: 15.Sex: 6 males, 9 females. Age range: 21 and 53.

Symptomatic: 5. Asymptomatic: 10. Deaths: Nil. Total cases: 86.

Autonomous Region of Bougainville: New cases: 1. Sex: 1 female. Age: 36

Symptomatic: Yes. Asymptomatic: Nil. Deaths: Nil. Total cases: 127.

Mr. Manning added that  the total  number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally, is 133,552,774 including 733,397 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.

The death toll is 2,894,295 of which 12,924 were reported in the last 24 hours.
